A garden pond for small gardens.

A pond doesn't always have to be big to enhance your garden.

With this guide, we list the advantages and disadvantages, as well as the special features of a small garden pond.

Such an oasis not only serves for one's own relaxation, but is also accepted by insects and birds as a water source and offers the heat compensation that is so urgently needed, especially on hot days.

At the same time, it invites you to observe and discover.

We stick to the motto: "Less is more."

Because experience shows us that most of our customers would rather have an easy-care "simple" garden pond to call their own.

As an example we show you our garden pond "FULDA“ which, with its compact size, is perfect for the "NO SPACE" problem.

GENERAL:

In a small front garden, in an allotment garden, at home or on the balcony/terrace, you don't have to do without the advantages of a garden pond.

After all, you can design your own realm the way you want! And with a small pond you upgrade it enormously.

BENEFITS:

  • No major construction site - little earthwork
  • Less maintenance effort
  • Low water costs (filling/water change)
  • Special charm due to the size
  • Few safety risks (e.g. with small children)
  • More detailed design options

DISADVANTAGE:

  • No fish keeping possible (at least these would have to be implemented over winter)
  • Ecological balance is more difficult to maintain
  • Plant diversity is limited (size and growth)
  • Water heats up much faster and therefore has to be exchanged more often, circulated through a stream or a water feature.

POSITION:

Choosing the right location is just as important, if not more important, for a small garden pond than for a "big one".

Factors to consider:

  • lighting conditions
  • planting

The location is basically up to you. Nevertheless, it is not recommended to set it in a cool and permanently shady place.

Ideally, there are six hours of sun a day - if possible, the blazing midday sun should be avoided.

On the one hand, far too much water evaporates there in summer, and on the other hand, too much sun increases algae growth. And who wants a green cloudy pond?

PLANTING:

Location is also important when choosing plants. If you have already decided on a plant, you should adapt the hours of sunshine in the pond to the plant characteristics.

If the garden pond is already installed and there is half the hours of sunshine per day, you should use semi-shade plants.

CONCLUSION

You do not necessarily have to do without the calming effect of a garden pond because of the space you have. Find a nice place and design this area according to your ideas or let us or the social networks inspire you.

Easier to maintain, easier to set up and cheaper than a much larger pond.

Less is more!

TIPS

You can build a small pond or mini pond yourself (e.g. rain barrel, objects such as tires or wooden barrels with pond liner,...) or buy a ready-made pond made of GRP (glass fiber reinforced plastic) or PE (polyethylene).

We hope you enjoy choosing and constructing your garden pond!
